This is a structure having spiritual significance. This temple, among others, is worshiped as Lord Kedarnath's head. According to mythology, the deity's head landed here while his body traveled from Kedarnath in India. People in the forest venerate a massive boulder that they believe to be symbolic of Lord Kedarnath. According to the Doleshwar Mahadev Legend, the Pandav brothers went to the Himalayas after the Mahabharata battle to beseech Lord Shiva to forgive them for murdering so many people. Lord Shiva was unwilling to pardon them, so he changed himself into a bull. Pandavas grasped the bull's tail, knowing Lord Shiva was disguised as a bull and on his way to escape. The bull's head had flown away from its body at this point. People have been searching for the head ever since, believing that the rest of the corpse is somewhere around Kedarnath, Uttarakhand, India. It is currently believed that the head separated from the bull's body fell near Bhaktapur, where the Doleshwor Mahadev temple today stands.

Timure village is a small community located around 1 kilometer within Nepal from the Friendship Bridge. The distance between Kathmandu and Timure village is around 159 kilometers, and the journey takes approximately 7 hours.

The highway to Nepal's China border is narrow and rugged, and small land slides occur frequently during the monsoon season. As a result, we employ municipal buses for transportation on this route.

We will drive from Darchen to Tarboche (Yam Dwar) in the morning after breakfast. It takes roughly twenty minutes to get there by car. Beautiful views of Mount Kailash's west and south slopes, as well as the surrounding area, are visible. Tarboche is a gathering place for local porters, yaks, and horses. If you have scheduled a local porter or horse, they will meet you here and escort you to your next destination.

Tarboche is the beginning point for the circumambulation of Mount Kailash. Your goal today is Deraphuk (the north face of Mount Kailash). Deraphuk has a height of 5080 meters (16,663 ft). You have two options for getting to Deraphuk: walk or ride a horse. The Chinese government has deemed vehicular transportation illegal. You must schedule and pay for your horse transportation in Darchen with your Tibetan guide one day in advance. Those who want to travel to Deraphuk can take a porter.

The distance to Kailash's north face is only three kilometers from your guesthouse in Deraphuk. The only place to see the North Face up close is here.

    NOTE:
Those who are participating in the trekking portion will proceed to Deraphuk from Yama Dwar. The rest of the members who are not traveling to Deraphuk will return to Darchen by bus and stay for three days. Today is the longest and most difficult day of our trip. We must go 22 kilometers in total to reach Zutulphuk. The journey from Deraphuk to Dolma la (5650 m) is straight upwards across a tough and rugged topography. It takes five hours to drive the approximately six kilometers from Deraphuk to Dolma La.

If you descend around 400 meters from Dolm La, you may see a little frozen lake on the right, about 140 meters off the main route. This is Gaurikunda Lake. The path then descends to the valley's bottom, where a Tibetan tea shop is located. The three-kilometer route between Dolma La and the local tea shop on the valley bottom requires considerable caution because this portion of the trail is regularly covered in ice and scree.

Although the terrain is quite flat, it will take you an extra 13 kilometers from the small tea shop to Zutulphuk. This part of the voyage will take roughly four more hours to complete.
